Charity Accounts Requirements
Every charity, even if it is not required to register with the Charity Commission, must keep accounting records. These accounting records include cash books, receipts, records of grants, etc.
It is a legal requirement to prepare a set of annual accounts.

Scrutiny of Charity Accounts:
There are two types of external scrutiny of accounts:
- Independent examination
- Audit
Charities with a gross annual income between £25,000 and £250,000 must have their accounts independently examined or audited.
All charities with annual income above £1m (or with an income over £250,000 and assets above £3.26m) are required to have an audit conducted.

Audit for Charities
Larger charities who predominantly are also limited companies must be audited and follow company law as well as charity law.
We are Registered Auditors and are able to carry out an audit and ensure the charity meets the requirements of both company and charity law.
Small Charities
Small charities can prepare simplified charity accounts on a payment and receipts basis.
They need to prepare a simplified trustees’ annual report, including the charity’s aims and achievements, names of trustees, the structure of the charity and a brief financial review.
We help trustees of charities with their reporting requirements
Independent Examination
Charities with income between £25,000 and £500,000 will need to be Independently Examined.
We are able to carry out the Independent Examination to ensure the charity complies with their reporting requirements.
